Job Description

Under the Supervision of WHO provincial team leader and the overall supervision of the WHO country Polio Emergency Team Leader, the Polio Religious and Social Affairs Officer will perform the following:-


1. Work closely with prominent religious leaders from the known persistent refusal districts/UCs and obtain acceptance to vaccination


2. Facilitate access and planning of SIAs to compromised areas in the province.


3. Engage in regular dialogue and maintain close contact with religious NGOs and civic societies operating within the assigned province


4. Provide information and updates of polio campaigns during pre-campaign preparedness and implementation as well as Post campaign coverages on both objective and subjective indicators for the religious support initiative.


5. Work closely with the Partners, Communication officer, the Technical and Security team at the provincial, district/town and lower levels.


6. Contribute in the preparation and distribution of ICT materials in local language. Collaborate with the provincial training and communication team for the development of the materials. Assist in translation of documents into local language when necessary.


7. Travel regularly to the field and to meet religious leaders and brief/educate them about vaccine safety and importance of vaccination.


8. Maintain regular contacts with religious/faith-based institutions and other partners in the districts to collect information on issues hindering quality of vaccination campaigns and negotiate with the religious leaders to remove obstacles for campaign implementation.


9. Maintain a real-time record of all chronic refusals areas and children and follow up issues in each area for an early resolution


10. Arrange polio district, town/UC, or specific area briefing meetings with religious and civil societies and other partners as necessary. Ensure prominent religious figures and famous personalities from the area take part in the sensitization meetings as key-note speakers.


11. Work closely with provincial government officials at all levels, religious and faith-based organizations, Schools and Madrasas, Civic Societies, women focus group and other partners to ensure that polio remains a priority program in all areas.


12. Arrange visits of the Polio officers and field monitoring teams and or/ accompany them to investigate refusal issues and to convince persistent refusals /faith-based misconceptions.


13. Arrange regular polio sensitization meetings with prominent religious figures and Imams etc.. at district/town, taluka/tehsil and zone/UC levels. Share latest updates and information as necessary. Maintain records of all meetings and decisions taken; ensure punctual follow-up and submit a monthly report of all the activities/ outcomes achieved.


14. Prepare budget requests/cost assessment for community mobilization activities, meetings/workshops, training etc.. with concept note and forward the documents to national religious and social affairs focal point, which will be forwarded to PEI country operations officer/TL POL for approval and necessary feedback.


15. Submit monthly reports on the initiative and way forwards for the program to TL and Federal RSP Focal point.



16. Prepare quarterly plans for expanding roles of the RSPs to RI, MNCH etc.
