Job Description

Job Purpose and Organizational Context

 

Under the overall guidance of Head of Office and direct supervision of the Head of Communication and Information Management Unit, the National IM Officer will supervise the data and web manager

 

Summary of Key Functions:

 

  • Support the strategy, planning, development and delivery of complex information management
  • Updating and assimilation of global information management standards
  • Support and maintain a client-oriented approach with all relevant stakeholders
  • Processing and analysis of data and information and presenting it in the format most useful for analysis

 

Support the strategy, planning, development and delivery of complex information management, reporting, and communications products

 

Updating and assimilation of global information management standards, policies and procedures to guide related activities within the OCHA Office.

 

Determining and supporting recommendations made by relevant senior OCHA staff on primary data and information elements that are required internally and externally to support humanitarian decision-making.

 

Support and maintain a client-oriented approach with all relevant stakeholders to help identify their information requirements and support activities that ensure that the information needed to support humanitarian operations (and the coordination role of the Humanitarian Coordinator, OCHA Field Office) is submitted/collected, organized and made available to all humanitarian stakeholders in-country.

 

Assist in strategic and operational decision-making by coordinating the processing and analysis of data and information and presenting it in the format most useful for analysis (e.g. reports, maps).

 

Provide technical support to partners in terms of data management, analysis, infographics, GIS, and other areas of IM support.  

 

Under the supervision of senior staff, develop, design and implement a structured dissemination plan for all information products and services (e.g. reports, data, maps) through, for example, hard copy, standalone executable programmes, and websites.

 

Supervise the collection and management of data entry and the use of standardized systems to support humanitarian operations and the Humanitarian Programme Cycle (HPC). These standardized databases include: 

Online Projects System (OPS), Who Does What Where, Contact Directory, and Financial Tracking System.

 

Provide support to technical staff in the development of databases for the collection and processing of context specific data (e.g. affected populations, displaced populations, demographic and vulnerability data, results of common rapid needs assessment…)

 

Support the advocacy functions of the office by assisting in the collection, processing, storage and retrieval of documents, including images, of emergencies and vulnerability, as well as relief operations.

 

Support the development of global OCHA Information Management initiatives.

 

Perform other duties, as assigned by the supervisor.

experience in the following applications: Microsoft Office, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign. Knowledge and experience of data development and management. Knowledge of Content Management Systems and/or Geographic Information Systems is a benefit.

Recruitment Qualifications

 

Masters in Computer Science, Statistics, GIS, Information Technology or a related field

 

Experience:

 

Minimum of 2 years’ experience in information management or related field. Some experience in the design and successful implementation of new processes and systems would be an asset. Knowledge of application of standards to the development and use of information management systems. Experience in the application of information management in humanitarian response is desirable.

 

Language

 

Fluency in Urdu and English, both written and verbal
