Working under the direct supervision of the Secretary Women Development, the Legal Expert will be housed at Women Development Department.
The duties and responsibilities of the Legal Expert will be:
i) To coordinate and keep records of the meetings of Women Development Department pertaining to legal matters in her ambit
ii) To provide quality policy advice to the WDD for strengthening legislative functions through enhanced lawmaking skills, knowledge and information.
iii) To provide continuous advice to WDD through ongoing active legislative scrutiny on the legal aspects of various policy documents under review and discussion by the Provincial Assembly and other relevant bodies at provincial level.
iv) To extend analytical support to the WDD which in turn will be in a better position to provide timely input to the Standing Committee on Women’s Development in the Provincial Assembly on various policy matters, which leads to improve the participation of women Members in ongoing activities of the Assembly, especially in terms of quality and the frequency of their inputs.
v) To guide the WDD on the legal functions of various other Women Machineries and units which will support in the implementation of some of the policy elements of the legal frameworks related to women empowerment and gender equality.
vi) To identify and disseminate strategic perspectives on emerging legal and policy issues.
vii) Technical assistance for establishment of Provincial Commission on the Status of Women along with preparation of standards, guidelines and regulatory framework for various institutions related to women development and empowerment
Other duties and responsibilities: the Legal Expert will undertake other duties when and if required by the Secretary WDD and UN Women
Required Skills
Education
Advanced degree in law
Experience
A minimum of 5 years of practical experience on legal policy research, analysis, and advice.
Experience in gender work and deep understanding of the issues of women in Pakistan.
Work experience with the government and understanding of its institutional processes will be an extra advantage
Maturity to work harmoniously with persons of different nationalities and cultural backgrounds; and ability to work under conditions of extreme pressure and difficult living conditions.
Demonstrated ability to work in a team.
Skills
Good computer skills in Window environment, knowledge of Internet communications and command of MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Power Point).
Strong analytical, writing and communication skills
Language Requirements
Fluency in English (knowledge of local language is an asset) and Urdu.
