District Medical Officer
Under the directives of the Provincial and Federal WHO Polio Eradication Team Leader, and the overall supervision of WHO Representative, the incumbent will undertake the following activities:
- To identify high-risk areasand groups for polio transmission within district/division of assignment.
- Work with District Healthstaff to make preparations for supplemental polio immunization campaigns,the most critical being:
- Good quality micro planning
- Mobilization and involvement of resources and personnel from outside the Department of Health
- Training of districts officers, supervisors, monitors and vaccination teams
- Develop a campaign supervision plan appropriate to the local needs
- Development of a monitoring plan and monitoring of implementation of activities
- Ensure appropriate use of WHO resources
- Strengthen AFP surveillance
- work to improve AFP surveillance quality, particularly active surveillance through evaluation of the existing system and data
- Interpret AFP surveillance data and use the information to give guidance to programme managers
- Advise district healthauthorities on ways to strengthen routine immunization
- Train and oversee activitiesof national WHO staff at therequest of WHO Provincial TeamLeader
- Give progress updates toProvincial Team Leader and Provincial Health authorities
- Undertake other polioeradication and EPI activities at the direction of the Team Leader
To submit a typed assignment report, including an executive action document
Qualification, Skills and Experience
- Medical Degree recognized by PMDC
- Post Graduation in Public Health recognized by PMDC.Three years work experience in PEI or Five years experience in public health at district level
- Good epidemiological and statistical skills to analyze and interpret data in presentable format
- Ability to lead an experienced team of District Support Offiers (DSO's), Campaign Support Persons 9CSP's) and others
- Good communication skills to build strong partnership with political and community leaders, district health management and other stakeholders
- Compatibility with computers specially MS Office, Internat Explorer and statitical packages like SPSS, MS Access and EPI-INFO etc
