Degree Title:
Completion of secondary education, supplemented by training on library and information services.
Minimum Experience:
5 Years(Five years experience in extensive use of desktop computer applications including training and use of library databases, provision of library and information services)
THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL:1. Be responsible for acquisitions, cataloging, classification and circulation of all library material. Maintain and update the WHO collection of books, serial publications, documents, audiovisual and other materials by checking numbers and quality against dispatching forms, registrations, coding, stamping, binding, shelving, shelf-reading and weeding for archiving purposes. 2. Maintain the computer based WHO Bibliographic Database (WHOSBIS) by regularly updating its content, cleaning of data, linking of records and reports generation based on users requests.3. Maintain the computerized mailing list database of the WR Office and its synchronization with the Regional Office Master Mailing List by: Addition, deletion and upgrading of entries of names and addresses of individuals and institutions in the country; Categorization and coding of entries according to specialties, roles, distribution lists of technical units and policies of the Regional Office.4. Provide reference services and guidance to internal and external users in retrieval and access of EMRO Virtual Health Sciences Library, GIFT, HINARI, world directory of medical schools and WHO-HQ Library Database by: Briefing on GIFT, HINARI, related databases and WHO Library; Searching databases, WHO/HQ and WHO Regional websites and the Library's collection to locate information; Receiving and dissemination of free publications, newsletters and documents provided by HQ, RO or produced by the WR Office.5. Initiate correspondence and answer queries related to area of work, identify gaps and recommend solutions.
Required Skills
- Good knowledge of library operations and databases
- Good knowledge of software desktop applications
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Very good knowledge of English and the local language
