The Senior Programme Manager will work under guidance of Chief of Polio Eradication and work closely with Communication for Eradication, Management & Accountability and Monitoring & Evaluation task teams of Emergency Operations Centre for general guidance and direction.

In close collaboration with the Team Leader for POLIO, the incumbent will provide technical support to the national authorities in Pakistan in designing, planning, monitoring, evaluating and coordinating administrative, technical and logistical aspects of polio eradication activities.He/she will make independent decisions on corrective actions necessary to achieve the objective in his/her area of responsibility. He/she reports to the Chief of Polio Eradication to achieve cessation of transmission of Polio from Pakistan by the year 2022 through supplementary immunization and strengthening routine immunization.

How can you make a difference?

Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Polio Eradication and the general guidance of the UNICEF Representative to Pakistan, the incumbent in close collaboration with national authorities will assist in managing and directing UNICEF's inputs to polio eradication in Pakistan, including:

  1. Provide technical support in the development of the annual National Emergency Action Plans (NEAP) for polio eradication and monitor the implementation of UNICEF's work towards the NEAP execution as well as providing the Chief of Polio Eradication with regular updates and assistance in the yearly evaluation of the NEAP.
  2. Collaborate with the Polio Partnership, including Ministry, WHO, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) to ensure the proper and timely implementation of National Emergency Action Plan for Pakistan
  3. Manage and provide the technical guidance to the work of the technical and operational units within the UNICEF Polio team at the national level, under the guidance of the Chief of Polio Section, in particular those units covering operations, immunization, data analysis and integrated services.
  4. Assess and strengthen Community Based Vaccination, Data support Centre and Vaccine Management with extended support to the field offices and monitor the progress.
  5. Collaborate with the partners to supervise and support the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of Supplemental Immunization Activities (SIA) in the field and prepare the necessary reports.
  6. Prepare programme reports and follow up reports for special activities within the programme, particularly on poliomyelitis eradication.
  7. Provide technical guidance for the implementation of Polio Eradication Imitative, including planning for the strengthening of immunization services, implementing plans for using the polio eradication infrastructure to support broader immunization goals.
  8. Undertake other duties, as required, in relation to other programmes of collaboration in Pakistan

To qualify as a champion for every child you will have:

Education

         University degree in Medicine and master's degree in public health (preferably in epidemiology or child health).

Work Experience

        A minimum of ten years of professional development experience that combines technical and managerial leadership in development         cooperation at the international level, in public health, particularly disease control. Experience in immunization programmes as well          as in-field training is desirable. Relevant professional experience in any UN system agency or organization is considered as an  asset.

Language Proficiency

        Fluency in English is required.  Knowledge of another official UN language or local language of the duty station is considered as an  

        asset.

        This post is based in Islamabad Country Office with field mission on needs basis.
